Young Lives vs Cancer responds to increase in funding for children’s hospices

Today (Thursday 19 December), the Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, announced a £100million fund for adult and children’s hospices in England, including an increase of funding for children’s hospices to £26 million.

Helen Gravestock, Director of Policy, Communications and Voice at Young Lives vs Cancer, said: “Cancer is the biggest killer by disease of people under 25 in the UK and unfortunately every week ten children and young people die from cancer. An increase in funding means this support will be available for children and young people we support across England, who sadly need the service of hospice care.

“Today’s announcement is an important step in ensuring children and young people continue to have access to the support and care they need at home or at a hospice. We look forward to learning more about how the funds will be distributed and the impact it will go on to make for children and young people with cancer and their families.”
