Meet Harry

Harry – who everyone calls Hazza – loves sport. Always has done. When he was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive type of bone cancer, at first he thought it was a football injury.

But, because of cancer, Harry has been through repeated rounds of chemotherapy. He needed major surgery to remove a bone tumour and most of his femur, tibia, upper leg muscle and knee. He’s had an implant in his leg that will grow as he does, but will still need replacing throughout his life.

Today, Harry is on his journey through rehab. He’s moving in the right direction, and while he might not be able to play contact sports anymore, he’s learned to ride his bike again. He’s taken up golf, too – and loves it. Practising is helping his leg get stronger, and he’s already hit a few pars and nearly got a hole-in-one – twice!

Andy, Harry’s Dad, says: “Young Lives vs Cancer have been a great support for Hazza and his family and continue to be so. They are in the hospital every day, supporting so many children and their families, which is invaluable. And they will always make contact with families whilst not at hospital, even when the cancer treatment side is finished (as the journey doesn’t end there)”.

When you fundraise for Young Lives vs Cancer, you’re right there with young people like Harry and their families. Thank you.
