Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Skydive

Skydive available dates: Any day in September

Locations: There are airfields across the country so it should be easy to find a skydive close by:

Registration fee: Just £35, that’s half price!

Fundraising target: £430 (£450 in Maidstone, Cornwall, Scotland & Northern Ireland).

That could pay for 6 families to stay for a night in one of our Homes from Home. Our Homes are free, warm and welcoming places for families to stay, based near to principal cancer treatment centres. Families can stay for as long as they need so that the can have a moment of peace away from the hospital when their child is going through treatment.

What does a tandem skydive feel like?

A Tandem skydive lets you experience free fall without the need for lots of training. You will free fall normally from at least 10,000 feet with the parachute being opened at 5,000 feet. You then get to float down the last mile with your instructor to a soft landing. This is the perfect experience for your first-time jump as you are attached to an instructor who does all of the work for you. This leaves you free to enjoy the view!

What are the age restrictions?

For the tandem skydives the minimum age is 16 – however anyone aged 16 or 17 would need to have a parental consent form on the day of their jump. You will have access to this once you have booked.

A few of Skyline’s airfields have an upper age limit for tandem jumps: Cornwall has an upper age limit of 65, Lancaster and Whitchurch have a limit of 70 and Perthshire has a limit of 49.

What are the weight restrictions?

The weight limits for men and women can vary between our airfields – you can click here to see the limits at each airfield. Just click on your selected location to see the details.

Some airfields have a very strict height to weight ratio – if you are unsure please email us at info@skylineevents.co.uk and they can let you know their limits with regards to your height. When you book on and provide your height and weight please ensure it’s within the weight limit of your airfield.

Can I jump if I have a medical condition?

The British Parachute Association (BPA) insist that all participants with a medical condition get a specific form signed by their doctor. Skyline will share that form with you.

Can I jump if I have a disability?

Skyline’s airfields will look at each case individually, so please email them at info@skylineevents.co.uk and they can check for you. With any medical condition- you will also need to have the medical form signed by a doctor.

What training and safety information will I be given ahead of my skydive?

Safety training and instruction for your tandem skydive will be carried out at the airfield before your jump by qualified British Skydiving instructors. Your training will cover 5 main factors:

• Orientation and Documentation
• Equipment
• The Stable Position
• Aircraft Drills and the Exit Position
• Landings

Every day 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. Yet not one of them has the same experience. All young cancer patients have different needs, opportunities and backgrounds and for some, the systems in place and gaps in support mean that their experiences are much more challenging than others. Far too many children and young people with cancer are experiencing inequality as soon as they are diagnosed due to a ‘one size fits all’ approach throughout much of the system. That’s why the support they receive must look beyond their diagnosis. It should provide them with what they need, so that they can go on to thrive no matter what. That’s why we exist.

We don’t receive any government funding so everything we do is thanks to amazing people like you. From funding our brilliant Young Lives vs Cancer Social Workers to our vital financial grants, your support means that we can be there for children and young people facing cancer, and their families, to ensure that having a cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean you lose what makes you, you.
