Morrisons

Morrisons was a corporate partner of Young Lives vs Cancer from 2017 – 2022. Together, we raised £18 million for children and young people with cancer.

Initially a three-year partnership, Morrisons extended their support in both 2020 and 2021 bringing it to five years and doubling the original target of £8 million, their most successful charity partnership to date.

The partnership has had a positive impact on thousands of families, such as funding 12,500 grants to help with the cost of cancer, various support groups for service users and their families, and a brand new Home from Home, Jack’s House, due to open in 2022.

You can read all about the difference the partnership made in the full report here.

Jack’s House – opening 2022

Jack’s House in Manchester will be opening in 2022. As the charity’s 11th Home from Home, Jack’s House will provide a free and comfortable space for families to stay whilst their child is going through cancer treatment.

Since 2017, Morrisons has been in partnership with CLIC Sargent, raising millions of pounds for young lives facing cancer.

Services Funded by Morrisons

For the first three years of our partnership, Morrisons funded People, Places and Practical Things.

People – Five nurse educators were funded to teach doctors and nurses in community hospitals across the UK how to care for young cancer patients, so they don’t have to travel as far for treatment

Places – 467 families have used our ‘Home Comforts’ offer at our Homes from Home providing crucial time away from the hospital ward.

Practical things – Morrisons is helping us be there to help out with some practical things that can make life with cancer that bit more bearable by funding 9550 grants so families can spend less time worrying about money.

We have launched our brand new website with thanks to Morrisons. The site has more useful information than you can shake a stick at, and will be a first point of call for young people wanting information when and where they need it.

The final year of our partnership will fund a brand new Home from Home in Manchester. This will benefit countless families and young people who have to travel to receive specialist cancer treatment in Manchester.

Eric Coates, Manager of Paul’s House in London, said:

"The Home Comforts scheme has been a godsend for our families. They can't believe something so precious is available to them to use for free. They are happy to be able to cook something tailored to their child because they find it quite difficult to find the right stuff for their tastes - either because of cultural needs or because their child has particular cravings. They always say it is amazing that they can use the house, and that is something we could not have done without Morrisons."

Partnership Activity

Every Morrisons store across the UK has been involved in our partnership, from hosting bucket collections on World Cancer Day, to trekking up Mount Snowdon, to getting customers involved in fundraising in store. Thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of Morrisons colleagues, our partnership has been record breaking.

Every Pack Gives Back is our multisupplier campaign which has been running since the first year of our partnership. Brands like McVities, Birds Eye and Cadbury have been involved and generously donated a portion of their sales. To date we have raised £3.2 million through Every Pack Gives Back, and we have more planned to run in 2021.

The children and young people who we support are at the heart of our partnership. From a brand new ice cream flavour developed by children, to a shopper bag designed by young people, their input into our partnership is key to its success.

It’s not just us who thinks our partnership is special. We know what it takes to make a partnership a success, and we’ve won awards to prove it. We won Best Partnership with a Children’s Health Charity at the Better Society Awards 2019Partnership of the Year at the Charity Today Awards 2020, and have been shortlisted for countless others.
