Cash for Kids appeal: Be a hero for CLIC Sargent
CLIC Sargent is teaming up with Hits Radio Cash for Kids for this year’s Superhero Day which takes place on Friday 10 May.
Cash for Kids is Bauer Media’s official charity; they support the needs of children across the UK. Superhero Day is one of their biggest annual fundraising dates and this year they’ve chosen to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Hits Radio Breakfast Show hosts Gemma Atkinson, Gethin Jones, and Dave Vitty officially launched the countdown to this year’s Superhero Day by inviting listeners to get involved. This year’s theme is ‘Not every superhero wears a cape’ and supporters can dress up as their favourite superhero for the day, be a star baker and have a cake sale, hold a coffee morning, a karaoke evening, or take part in a sponsored run or whatever inspires them.
Gemma Atkinson, radio presenter and Cash for Kids ambassador“I’m so excited for Superhero Day this year - I just need to work out my costume! Cash for Kids do such amazing work and by supporting CLIC Sargent they’ll be helping so many families with children fighting cancer. Please get involved if you can-together we can make a big difference.”
From Monday 29 April through to Friday 10 May, families supported by CLIC Sargent will be sharing their stories on air of how the real life superheroes from CLIC Sargent have helped them, including Jane, whose son Josh was only three years old when he was diagnosed:
Jane"We met our CLIC Sargent Social Worker Saiorse very early on. She had so much time to talk to us, to listen to us, reassure and support us, she was incredible. It was so scary for Josh’s brother and sister because they didn’t fully understand what was happening.
“Saiorse gave us a really good book from CLIC Sargent, called Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer, which explained it in a way that was right for their age. It helped them understand and made it less scary.”
Schools, companies and generous members of the public in Manchester and around the UK have already pledged to take part in Superhero Day. They will be joined by some of CLIC Sargent’s corporate supporters including some Morrisons’ stores.
Cash for Kids are hosting an online auction which launched on Monday 29th April. Prizes up for grabs include concert and football tickets, a voucher for afternoon tea, signed Little Mix mugs, and a TV, as well as lightbulbs and tablet cases. All funds raised will be going to CLIC Sargent. Visit https://www.givergy.uk/hitsradio/ for more information.
