Morrisons Every Pack Gives Back campaign supports CLIC Sargent

Six year old William Bramley can’t contain his excitement as the extra special Morrisons delivery knocks on the door of their home in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

William’s mum, Joanne, is expecting a delivery of Morrisons shopping, but it’s an order with a difference. Each of the items being delivered are part of Morrisons Every Pack Gives Back campaign running throughout July in support of CLIC Sargent, the leading charity for children and young people with cancer, and the charity that has supported William throughout his treatment for Leukaemia.

Every Pack Gives Back

For every pack of selected products sold during the campaign, a donation of between 5-10p will be donated to the charity. CLIC Sargent were chosen as Morrisons charity partner by their colleagues in January 2017 and since then have raised £8.5 million.

For William, he can’t wait to dive into some of his all-time favourite treats including Jaffa Cakes and Cadbury’s Chocolate Fingers, thanks to Morrisons suppliers going the extra mile to support young lives facing cancer.

Every Pack Gives Back campaigns in Morrisons, in aid of CLIC Sargent, first started in May 2018 with over £1 million has been raised, thanks to supplier involvement. This campaign, which also includes Maltesers, Yorkshire Tea, Kenco Millicano Coffee, Kelloggs cereals, Mcvitie’s Digestives, Go Ahead Bars and various frozen choices from Birds Eye and Goodfella’s, has something for every meal of the day and aims to raise £140,000 for children just like William.

I thought he was a bit anaemic or something, but then the doctor said I want you to take him straight to A&E. Within a couple of hours and a few blood tests later they told us they were 95% sure it was Leukaemia; that’s when our world just fell to bits."

William’s story

In December 2017, just weeks before Christmas, William was having problems shaking off a winter cold. After falling asleep in class, his teacher suggested going to see the doctor as it was really out of character for the usually lively William. The same night he was blue-lighted to Leeds General Infirmary and diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Since then, William has been receiving chemotherapy and has been supported by a CLIC Sargent social worker as well as receiving a  Morrisons-funded registration grant from the charity.  Though still receiving treatment, William is doing much better. He can struggle to shake off the usual bugs other children might easily get over, but he is back to his smiley, happy self and has just celebrated his 6th birthday with a superhero themed party.

Joanne said:

“At first you think ‘oh my goodness’ – he had a tube in his nose that we had to put medicine in and I had to inject him in his leg every day. I was thinking ‘I can’t do this, I can’t cope with this’ but now everything is just normal – it’s part of life now. It’s weird how you adapt to things. Children are amazing how they adapt.”

Support from Morrisons

When cancer strikes young lives, CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. All the funds raised from the Every Pack Gives Back campaign will help to support thousands of families facing a cancer diagnosis each year.

As part of their 4 year partnership with CLIC Sargent, Morrisons funding provides registration grants of £170 to families when the doctor first says its cancer. Providing financial help to families in this time can help them focus on the important things, like their child getting well again. Since 2017, the partnership has provided nearly 5000 registration grants to families.

As Joanne says,

“Your child may have just been diagnosed with Leukemia but you still have the finances to pay.”

Morrisons also fund CLIC Sargent’s ‘Home Comforts’ scheme, allowing non-resident families to use the facilities at Home from Homes, giving them respite and time away from the wards as well as funding four Nurse Educators who work with local hospitals to ensure young people receive the very best cancer care, as close to home as possible.

We’re so thrilled to be involved with the campaign and to raise awareness of the amazing work CLIC Sargent do, the support we received from them, honestly took a huge weight off our shoulders. William was so excited to have his photo taken with all of the products and we can’t encourage people enough to look out for them when doing their shopping. Each donation really does add up and we know the real-life difference it makes to families."
