At an event near you
If you're looking for a Young Lives vs Cancer volunteering experience that’s full of atmosphere, comradery and pure joy, then a running or cycling event near you is just the ticket.
Picture this, the ground is rumbling with excitement, the crowd is clapping and whistling, the goose bumps are showing on your arms and then you spot them, the Young Lives vs Cancer runner or cyclist.
They see you – their eyes light up and you see their whole body take on your energy. The energy they need to make it to the finish line. You did that!
Events we’ve got coming up and need volunteers for include:
- Great North Run – 8th September 2024
- Bath Half Marathon – 16th March 2025
- London Landmarks Half Marathon – 6th April 2025
- London Marathon – 27th April 2025
Please fill in the form below, letting us know which event you’d like to volunteer at.
Have you ever watched the London Marathon on TV or walked past a local 10K run and thought ‘those crowds look like they’re having the time of their lives’?! Well now’s your time to be part of it.
Cheering is such an important part of a sporting event as it really helps our runners or cyclists finish their challenge.
We need volunteers to whoop and whistle for our incredible teams at various sporting events across the country.
The support from our cheer points makes a huge difference, not only to our awesome supporters putting in the miles, but also in making some noise for children and young people with cancer.
The makings of a good cheer point are location, materials, organisation and smiles! If you think you’ve got the instincts to choose a good cheering spot, ability to set up banners and balloons (we provide all of this), and the smiles to greet your fellow cheerers then this is the role for you.
Cheer points are special places where family, friends and fellow volunteers join together to give their loved ones, or fellow charity supporters, a good old scream! That takes organisation, and people like you to set up, host and take down the cheer point.
It would involve:
- Get to the course early to save a good spot and fix banners and flags to railings
- Meet and greet family, friends and other cheerers
- Lead the team in cheering on our fantastic Young Lives vs Cancer sporting legends
- Pack down the cheer point
Snapping pictures of special moments at events is so important to our volunteers and those taking part in the events. They’ve put so much into their training and having pictures of those moments will last a lifetime.
If you are an amateur, hobbyist, or professional photographer and want to join #TeamYoungLives then getting involved with one of our events might be the perfect opportunity for you.
The photos you create will be fully credited to you, shared with event participants and they may go on to be used in future advertising campaigns.
We do ask that you have your own equipment and we’ll make sure you have all of the support you need, including our brand guidance for photographs.
To apply to be a photographer at one of the events near you, please complete the form below and one of our team will be in touch.
*Please note our vacancy for a photographer at the Great North Run is now filled.*
