Sam is one of our amazing runners taking on the 2022 London Marathon. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at 19 years old and thanks to fundraisers like you, Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker Jane was there every step of the way.
“Within minutes of being in our home, Jane lit up the room that had felt very dark since my diagnosis. She helped us apply for financial aid, grants and even spoke to me about how I could explain all this scary stuff to my little sisters. Nothing was too much for Jane!
“My mum has since described her help as ‘the hug she didn’t realise she needed’ and a guiding light through the darkest hour. She made us cry laughing every time we saw her and the regular phone calls really made a difference in my treatment and my mindset.
“If it takes running a marathon to make sure social workers like Jane can continue their valuable work, then I’ll lace up my trainers any day for them!”

Cancer is shocking, overwhelming, isolating… and completely unfair. Especially when you’re young. It takes over your life. Treatment is gruelling and your ambitions and dreams suddenly seem very far away.
We get that. That’s why Young Lives vs Cancer fights tirelessly to stop cancer destroying young lives. We provide grants and free accommodation close to hospital to help with spiralling costs. Our care teams are on hand to help families with everything from getting benefits to treatment closer to home. And we lobby the government to make sure they get the support they’re entitled to. We’re here to make sure young cancer patients can focus on getting their lives back on track.
