How to apply

We know that applying for jobs can be daunting. Worry not, we have got you covered! Here we answer some of the most frequently asked questions. If your question isn't covered then drop us a message to ask.

I have seen a job I really like! How can I apply for it?

We are glad you found something you liked! We look forward to receiving your application. We use an applicant tracking system to find, assess and hire new talent to our organisation. To apply for our roles, you will need to submit an online application using an “Apply Now” button found on each vacancy page. You’ll need to enter some basic details to set up an account with us, and answer a few initial questions.

Once you’ve done that, you can either import details from your LinkedIn profile to help populate your application or enter them yourself.

The application will take you through the information you need to provide, but make sure you tick ‘complete’ to move onto the next section. You can always come back to the application with your log in details at another time.

Once you’re happy with your application you can choose “Submit Application”. Done.

Can I send my application by email?

Unfortunately not, all applications need to be submitted online. This is so our recruitment process is fair, consistent and transparent.

Most importantly, our recruitment process is blind – we use software to remove any identifying personal information (such as names) from all applications. Blind recruitment helps us reduce biases and give everyone a fair chance.

What other means are there for me to apply for a job?

Unfortunately online job application is the only way to apply for our jobs at the moment. We recognise that our current online application process may create accessibility barriers making it difficult for qualified applicants with disabilities to engage with our job opportunities. We are on a journey to change this but it will take time.

In the meantime, if you are not able to apply for our jobs online, please get in touch with us on recruitment@younglivesvscancer.org.uk and we will discuss with you some alternative ways for you to apply.

Why do you ask me to complete an Equal Opportunities Monitoring form? And who can see my information?

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we are committed to making active choices and changes to improve diversity. We strive to create and foster a culture and environment where everyone feels they truly belong here.

To help us assess our performance, inform our ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging activities, and monitor the effectiveness of our policies and programmes, we would like you to answers questions about equal opportunities.

However, we recognise this information is very personal to you, and it is not mandatory for you to provide it in order to apply. If you are successful, you will have another opportunity to answer equal opportunity monitoring questions when you join us.

We would like to highlight that this information is not available to anyone involved in the recruitment process! Our blind recruitment process means that any personal identifiable information is removed from your application, and your equal opportunities information is only available to relevant HR colleagues who monitor the make-up of our organisation.

When will I hear from you after I’ve completed my application?

We’ll email you to let you know we’ve got your application and keep you updated on the progress of your application by email. But please be patient with us – we receive a large volume of applications, so it may take us a few days after the closing date.

You can also check the status of your application on your account – it should say your application is “Submitted”. If it says “Incomplete Application” you may need to double-check all the sections of your application.

What if none of the current vacancies quite work for me?

Worry not, you can register for job alerts here. You’ll automatically receive notifications when we have vacancies that match your search criteria.

See a vacancy that would be great for someone you know? You can share these via LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or email at the bottom of each vacancy.

How will I know if I’ve made it to interview stage?

We will get in touch with you to tell you we cannot wait to meet you! And will let you know about anything you may need to prepare for it in advance. You’ll also receive an email asking  to select a time for the interview that works for you.

Can I get feedback on my application?

We know feedback is important! It gives an opportunity to learn and grow. We aim to give feedback to anyone who’s interviewed with us. But because we get lots of applications, we sadly can’t give feedback for every applicant.

What if I forget my account password?

That’s an easy one! You can simply request a new password by clicking on ‘forgotten your password’. An email with a link to reset your password will be sent to your email address.
