Young Lives vs Cancer teams up with Made in Chelsea’s Louise Thompson to launch Depop Shop

The UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, Young Lives vs Cancer, has teamed up with Made in Chelsea star Louise Thompson to launch a Depop shop.

The charity’s new Depop shop went live today [Wednesday 23 June] on the fashion marketplace app and adds to the charity’s current e-commerce offering, which includes an Ebay shop and an online shop. The Depop shop has been curated by Louise Thompson, with the first 23 pieces all taken directly from Louise’s wardrobe. Pieces include YSL loafers, a De La Vali dress and Ralph Lauren shirt.

The Depop shop will reach a new audience of young people passionate about pre-loved fashion, who will be able to shop more sustainably, all while supporting children and young people with cancer. The launch of a Depop shop also comes in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the huge impact it has had on the charity’s funding. Young Lives vs Cancer is now facing a £9m income loss, after the closure of its retail stores during national lockdowns and the cancellation of many fundraising events.

Young Lives vs Cancer Trading General Manager, Jason Webster, said:

“We are extremely excited to be setting up shop on Depop – this is a fantastic opportunity for the charity to continue to champion buying and selling that is more sustainable, diverse and less wasteful and reach a new audience of people passionate about pre-loved fashion.

“Over the past year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the enforced closure of our retail shops due to lockdown the charity’s income from shops alone decreased by around £1.5 million. By shopping at the Young Lives vs Cancer Depop shop you will help the charity recover from the impact of the pandemic and continue to be there for young people and their families facing cancer, who need us now more than ever before.”

Made in Chelsea reality TV Star, Louise Thompson, said:

“I’m so excited to be supporting the Young Lives vs Cancer Depop shop to raise money for young people with cancer. Fashion is a massive part of my life and clothes bring me so much joy, so I thought this would be a great way to help raise money while giving these clothes a second home to be loved by someone new too!

“A cancer diagnosis at any age impacts so many areas of a person’s life from money to body image, school and friends. Young Lives vs Cancer help young people from 0-25 face all of these fears and worries from the moment they’re told they have cancer. I’m so pleased to be able to support this incredible charity and I really hope my donations go on to support lots of young people across the UK.”

About cancer in children and young people

Today, 12 more children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last for up to three years. Although survival rates are over 80%, cancer remains the single largest cause of death from disease in children and young people in the UK.

About Young Lives vs Cancer

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.

Powered by the kindness of our supporters, we’ll face it all together. For more information, visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk
