The Pennies add up as Signet customers give £200,000 to help children and young people with cancer

H Samuel and Ernest Jones customers have been supporting children and young people with cancer by adding a small donation of 25p when they pay by card in store through Pennies digital charity boxes. The scheme has so far raised £200,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people and their families.

Elizabeth Lowrey, Strategic Partnerships Lead at Young Lives vs Cancer, said: “We’re really overwhelmed by the generosity of Signet’s customers and colleagues. To have raised £200,000 through these seemingly small donations in 3 years is amazing, and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has kindly donated.”

Signet said: “The support Young Lives vs Cancer provides for young people with cancer and their families is so vital, and at Signet we’re all really proud of our partnership with them. I want to thank each and every one of our customers who has made a donation with their purchase, as well as our team members who are key to making this partnership so successful. Each of the micro-donations through Pennies has added up to this phenomenal amount, and will make a huge difference to the families Young Lives vs Cancer are there to support.”

The Signet and Young Lives vs Cancer partnership has gone from strength to strength since it first began in October 2014. As well as fundraising by team members, money is donated from the sale of selected jewellery ranges in H Samuel and Ernest Jones websites and stores throughout the year to tie-in with key awareness campaigns such as September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month along with the donation of all profits from the sale of H Samuel’s iconic Christmas teddy bears.

Young Lives vs Cancer helps children and young people (0-25) and their families to face cancer and everything it throws at them. Their specialist social workers help families from the moment of diagnosis with emotional and financial support from helping to access grants and benefits to liaising with schools and employers, as well as being someone to talk to and to listen to what they need. The charity’s Homes from Home also offer a free place to stay nearby the hospital so families can be together.
