CLIC Sargent is spreading hope and positivity this World Cancer Day

CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, is celebrating this year’s World Cancer Day, 4 February 2021, by helping young people with cancer to share their experiences through the lens of four key words; hope, unity, friends and strength.  

These four powerful words were selected by two young people supported by CLIC Sargent, Sam and Enna. They mean a lot to them and, after the tough times we have all had over the last year, the charity believes they will mean a lot to many.  

Sam, who was just 11 years old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, said: “‘Strength’ and ‘unity’ sum up the most important things that have got me through the last few years. I know I’m stronger after cancer, I can achieve almost anything if I try.” 

For the next few weeks, young people supported by CLIC Sargent will be taking over the charity’s social media channels in a bid to fill our timelines with positivity and hope. They’ll be sharing their stories and talking about what these words mean to them through video, animation, story-telling and photos. We will hear what it’s like having cancer at a young age, as well as what it was that got them through the tough times. 

The charity will also be spreading positivity this new year with the launch of its digital wall of positivity. CLIC Sargent is encouraging supporters to add a piece of positivity to the wall by posting messages thanking the special people in their lives who have got them through the tough times.

CLIC Sargent will be selling a brand–new keyring to mark World Cancer Day, to raise money for young cancer patients. The keyrings are available in three different designs – Unity / Friendship, Strength and Hope and are available via the charity’s online shop for the price of £2 

The charity has also launched its first-ever virtual art show to celebrate the talents of the incredible young people and families it supports. Young people who have been supported by the charity, and their families, have been invited to submit art (from painting to tik-tok dance routines!) inspired by Sam and Enna’s powerful words for the online exhibition. 

The past year has been tough for everyone, but especially young people with cancer, but CLIC Sargent hope to spread some hope and positivity this World Cancer Day. No matter what the next year brings, CLIC Sargent will continue to be there for young people with cancer and their families. CLIC Sargent’s front-line social workers will be there to give young people and their families strength, Home from Homes will continue to offer families unity and our financial grants will be there to give hope in the tough times.
